Revolutionary geekery and melodramatic reflections on perpetual learning and other pathways to peace

10 things to complete in 2009

This is the first post exploring my 3 words for 2009: Complete, wisdom, shared. Here’s a list of things I’m going to complete, let go of or finish:

  1. French
I’m going to take the test for the Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française. If things go well, I’ll do the Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française as well.
  2. Public Speaking
Three speeches are left for me to receive my Toastmasters Competent Communicator Certificate. It’s about time I do them. The first one is scheduled for January 12.
  3. Meditation
Apparently, the only way to master psoriasis is to lead a balanced life. For that reason, I’ve started exploring meditation, using Shinzen Young’s Science of Enlightenment teachings. I’ve got some 10 hours audio left, and I’m going to get through them.
  4. Running
Ha! I haven’t been getting much exercise recently, and with nearly my entire family bitten by the running bug, I’ve now started with the Couch to 5 K running programme. I might not get through in the allotted 9 weeks, but I will by the end of the year. 24 runs to go.
  5. House
Some smaller projects here, but we’re going to finish: The curtains, the ladder, the desk, and the shower. Maybe even the bathroom redecoration.
  6. Bureaucracy
I’ll be a registered resident of Ixelles, Brussels, Belgium, have upgraded my bank account, filed my taxes in time and – finally – signed a contract.
  7. Online
I’ll have completed the move of this blog from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress, and moved my domains.
  8. Books
I’ve got a handful residual books on my nightstand: I’m going to finish the French version of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and Tim Smit’s Eden.
  9. Organic
We’re going to complete the year on our organic vegetable box (and always eat up our greens).
  10. Idling
I’m going to finish with my habit of idle websurfing, and develop more mindful (and more social?) ways of spending my time.
